Chancellor's Associates

Chancellor’s Associates is UCR’s leadership annual giving society. Each year this group of alumni, parents, and friends plays a crucial role in support of students, faculty, research, programs, and facilities. An annual gift of $2,000 or more to any school, department, or program establishes you as a member of Chancellor’s Associates. Benefits of membership in Chancellor’s Associates include invitations to special events that offer unique ways to engage with campus.

Chancellor's Associates Levels and Courtesies

  • How do I become a member of Chancellor's Associates?

Membership in Chancellor’s Associates begins when your total giving for one year reaches $2,000 or more, or $500 for graduates of the last decade. Your gifts to any school, college, department, or program at UCR count toward participation in Chancellor’s Associates. Membership in Chancellor’s Associates is renewable on an annual basis.

  • What is an annual giving society?

An annual giving society is a group of alumni, parents, and friends whose support on a yearly basis has a powerful impact on the campus. This group of donors helps to sustain and enhance excellence in teaching, research, and service. A dependable revenue source allows UCR to plan for the future.

  • How does Chancellor's Associates relate to UCR's other recognition programs?

Chancellor’s Associates recognizes your annual giving across all areas you support at UCR. In addition, other schools, colleges, and programs recognize annual giving through their own donor recognition programs, each of which has its own set of giving levels, benefits, and methods for recognizing donors.

  • Do matching gifts count toward Chancellor's Associates membership?

Corporate matching gifts (for instance, those from your employer) that have been received by UCR and applied to your giving record count toward your Chancellor’s Associates membership.

  • Why is the GOLD level membership less?

GOLD level membership begins at $500. It is important for our graduates of the last decade to stay engaged with UCR and $500 makes membership in the Chancellor’s Associates more attainable for our alumni who recently entered the workforce.

  • How do I contact you?

If you have questions about your giving or Chancellor’s Associates membership, please contact our donor relations office at or (951) 827-4389.

The Watkins Society

Watkins Society Event

Named after UCR's first chief executive, Provost Gordon S. Watkins, The Watkins Society honors donors who have made a commitment to the university's continued excellence by establishing a legacy gift. These gifts provide vital support to the outstanding students and world-renowned researchers at UCR for generations to come.

Each spring, members of the Watkins Society are invited to an annual event with the Chancellor and a program that showcases an outstanding facet of UCR. Past gatherings have featured tours of the Citrus Variety Collection, ARTSblock, and the Botanic Gardens.

He earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1918 and went on to serve as professor of economics at UCLA. In 1949, Dr. Watkins was appointed as UCR’s first provost, before we had a chancellor, and served in that role until his retirement in 1956.
